If we were given 30 seconds to tell you what The Treasure Box SG is about, this is what we will say,
"The Treasure Box SG is to help parents and families discover the treasures of knowing and experiencing God together as a family - through worship, prayer and studying His word."
If you would give us another 5 minutes, let us unpack for you the 3 elements: Worship, Prayer and Word.
“Prayer is preoccupation with our needs.Praise is preoccupation with our blessings.Worship is preoccupation with God Himself.”- Leonard Ravenhill
Worship is powerful. Worship changes atmospheres and shifts realities. The book of Revelation tells us that worship takes place 24/7 in heaven. Everything exists to give glory to God because everything recognises His worth and His sovereignty!
Now imagine what happens if families started worshipping together. Not just singing songs, but living out a lifestyle that shows God both at the centre and at the head. Not just going to church, but being the church to a lost and dying world.
We believe parents can model for their children what it means to live lives that are holy and acceptable to God. And we believe that children can inspire their parents to live their lives a little more fearlessly for Jesus too.
And when families worship together, we’ll catch a glimpse of heaven right here on earth.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
Philippians 4:6 NIV
Prayer - it’s either a rigid formality or it’s a powerful force. It’s either a boring ritual or it’s a weapon of warfare. It’s either the empty recitation of words or the sometimes desperate, sometimes confident heart-cry of a believer who knows their God and His nature.
Which is it in your home? Are our kids learning about how prayer is a divine conduit to God - where we present our thanksgiving and our petitions, and in return we gain access to His power and His provision? Or are they learning that prayer is the thing we do before mealtimes or before bedtime, and only when we want something from a God who suspiciously feels more like Santa than the Almighty Maker of heaven and earth?
Imagine what happens if families started praying together. If they started connecting to the heart and nature of God together. If they started truly understanding the power of praying to a loving God, and they learnt to do it together as a family. Imagine what would happen if they started experiencing miracles, signs and wonders right at home, when they pray together.
One thing’s for sure - the kids will never mistake the reality of God for the imagination of man again.
Let God be God, and Santa be Santa.
“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 NIV
Charles Spurgeon once said of John Bunyan, the famous 17th-century Puritan minister and writer - “if you cut him, he’d bleed scripture!” I wonder we’d bleed when we get cut? What would come out of us when we face difficult circumstances? When we face impossible challenges? When we’re persecuted, maligned, wrongfully accused?
Would our responses be guided by the Word of God? Or would they be informed by our emotions? Would we have a Biblical perspective of our situation, or would we take an earthly view? And would we allow His truth to shine in our hearts, or would we welcome the world’s lies and darken our hearts instead?
Imagine what happens if families started studying the Word of God together. If they started meditating on God’s truth and applying it in their lives together. If they started allowing His Words of Life to lead, guide, and inform every decision that they make.
We’d see a generation of John Bunyans raised up - living lives that are anchored in truth and passionate about the Gospel. We’d see ministers and evangelists and missionaries commissioned to reach the lost with God’s Word in their own spheres of influence and beyond.
May it be said of us and our families - “if you cut them, they’d bleed scripture!”
What then should we and would we do?
